NUMEROUS WAYS TO SAVE ENERGY PART 2

There are numerous ways that can decrease the energy expenditures and use it more proficiently. There are some techniques and suggestions to control the energy bills.

Guidelines for Consumer Electronics

The offices and places where ENERGY STAR products are applied save at least forty percent electric energy as compared to typical electronic devices.
  • Shut down your devices like printers, monitors, photo copiers, fax machines, personal computers, LCDs, which are not currently in utilized.
  • Connect your power adaptors and mobile, laptop or other battery charging gadgets in such power sockets which can be turned off by a toggle button. Always keep the button off when the devices are not working.
  • When you purchase TV set, purchase high definition television (HDTV) or a liquid crystal display (LCD). The Cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs consume fifty percent more power as compared to above mentioned models.
  • While purchasing printer, copier and fax machines, and scanner try to explore all in one device. This all-in-one machine would consume power for one machine and results for four machines.
  • Laser printers are expensive with respect to power as compared to inkjets.
  • Never keep your electronic devices like TV, DVD Player etc on stand by position using the remote control. Switch them off completely or use smart power strip. Smart power strip senses usage of the power and shuts down the passage when usage of the electricity decreases.
  • The replacement of notebooks over conventional desktop PCs reduces electricity usage. Always enable power management functionality of your ENERGY STAR PCs, monitors and other accessories as they conserve energy only when this functionality is enabled.
Guidelines for Hot Water

The second highest electricity energy consumers are your electric water heaters. If your water heating system uses oil or gas as the main source of energy, it consumes electricity for pumping water to your washbasins or bathing tubs. Proficient use of hot water conserves a large amount of energy.
  • Keep thermostat of your water heater at “Warm” stage instead of “Very Hot”. Proper wadding of your water heater and the pipelines will save heat transverse to atmosphere and it will ultimately lower your energy consumption.
  • Keep watch on leakage of water from valves or taps and replace such valves and taps immediately. Small quantity of wastage of very hot water means wastage of a complete bucket or tub of hot warm water.
  • A major quantity of water is wasted in bathing. It would be better to take showers of short period. The savings of water form taking bathes will not only reduce your energy bill but will also reduce your water bill.
Guidelines for Dishwashers

While washing dishes with hands it looks we are saving energy, but ultimately this is not true. In fact we are loosing energy in the form of hot water. Use of the dishwasher will save energy costs in total.
  • The ENERGY STAR dishwashers consume less energy as compared to standard dishwasher. At least 41 percent of energy can be conserved by using such products. The analysis revealed that more than $200 was saved in electricity costs when the performance of two dishwashers was compared.
  • Avail benefits of power reduction management available in many models. The heating is stopped while the washer is drying up. Open the washer once the rinse cycle is completed let the dishes air dry, it will conserve power.
  • Ask for such models of dishwashers which consume lesser warm water, when purchasing the new washers. There are variants of dishwasher in terms of gallons of hot water they need for their washing cycle. The ENERGY STAR dishwasher will conserve at least 5000 gallons of hot water annually.
Guidelines for Refrigerator and Freezers

Refrigerators and Freezers also consume a lot of energy and we can conserve a handsome amount of energy out of this consumption.
  • New ENERGY STAR refrigerators conserve at least 20 percent energy when comparing to new standard model and can conserve up to 40 percent energy when compared to old standard appliances.
  • Always operate your refrigerators and freezers on cold mode instead of coldest mode. After adjusting the temperature, check the performance by putting thermometer in side the machine. The temperature for refrigerator should be 35-38 degree Fahrenheit and that of freezer should be 5 degree Fahrenheit.
  • Regularly clean the coils of condenser of your refrigerator. Always leave sufficient space for air circulation between your unit and the adjacent walls.
  • Never install your refrigerator or deep freezer near to heat generating appliances like dishwasher, ovens etc. It will decrease the efficiency of your unit.
  • Check the rubber seals of your refrigerator and freezer regularly. The leaked seals evade cooling to atmosphere and the cooling device needs to work harder and consume energy further.

Guidelines for Cooking

While conserving power out of your kitchen it involves many techniques. They involve right temperature of your oven, right size of your oven and other kitchen appliances according to size of your family.
  • Use microwave oven instead of standard oven. It is more efficient and can save 20 to 25 percent electric power.
  • The size of pots and pans should match with that of the burner. If they are not, they loose extra heat. Always use cooking utensils with flat panes and tight covers.
  • While using oven, manage cooking of your various dishes which require same temperature and cook them simultaneously. It will save your energy costs.

Guidelines for Home Electronics

Various electronic appliances remain standby and consume power just to minimize the time to immediately start up working when you turn them on.
  • The devices when in standby mode consume power. This is called phantom load. Normally it occurs in case of TV, VCR, DVD / CD Players, computers, monitors / LCD’s etc. Try to avoid or minimize the phantom load.
  • While hunting for phantom load shut down all the lights and search for any LEDs or glows. Remember any appliance which needs to restart after you turn it on creates phantom load.

Guidelines for Laundry

Avoiding the use of dryer by slinging your washed clothes in your back garden could be one way to lower your energy bill in summer.
  • While selecting your washing machine from the nearby market not only check the ENERGY STAR compliant machine but also look for the Modified Energy Factor (MEF). The efficiency of the machines is linked with MEF, higher the MEF efficient would be the machine.
  • Instead of two to three run ups of your washing machine in a week, schedule one run of the machine in a week. It’ll save your dollars in terms of electricity bill.
  • More power is consumed to hot the water you use in your washer. So use the hot water only when the clothes are heavy. The new breed of detergents works well in cold water as they work with the hot one.
  • Front filling washing machines conserve energy as compared to standard top filling washing machines.
  • Always check the lint filter of your dryer as the lint blocks air circulation and decreases efficiency of your drying machine.
  • While purchasing new cloth dryer focus on wetness sensor. It will shut down the machine automatically when wetness vanished and save your energy costs.

The Ever-Increasing Costs of the “Fear of Calling” Syndrome

Recent studies have confirmed the obvious, that is to say that “fear of calling” in sales can contribute to a significant proportion of lost sales revenues. One study that I read recently found that as many as 40 % of established salespeople experienced periods of “fear of calling” severe enough to threaten their future in sales.

Stemming the ever-increasing costs of the “fear of calling” syndrome cannot be addressed by training alone. It requires an experienced coach or mentor to work with each salesperson’s particular set of beliefs, so that they feel truly empowered to breakthrough their self-created mental barriers. One particular statistic, in the following survey, should give any salesperson suffering from “fear of calling” renewed confidence.

How Customers Regard Salespeople Survey

• Salespeople who do not bother to make appointments  45%
• Salespeople who know nothing about the customer’s business 60%
• Salespeople who know little about their products and services 60%
• Salespeople who call too often 9%
• Salespeople who don’t call often enough 49%
• Salespeople who do not have the authority to negotiate prices 45%
• Salespeople who do not ask for the order 40%
• Salespeople who are not properly or sufficiently organized 55%

Most desirable quality customers want to see in salespeople?

Competence!

Customers Can Sense Fear

We must remember that a salesperson’s state of mind is instantly transferred to their prospect or customer, which means that the challenge for organizations is to constantly create a highly resourceful state in their salespeople. This is extremely important, because when salespeople lack belief in themselves, their product or their service, they unconsciously transmit their attitude to prospects in a variety of subtle and sometimes overt ways.

Summary – The Importance of Divine Intervention From Above

Most sales managers grasp the concept of activity management, skills development and knowledge development. Intuitively, Sales Directors also understand the vital importance of the right mindset. Yet, far too many feel powerless to help their salespeople turn their negative beliefs into positive ones. Those few sales managers who do tackle such negative beliefs and are able to change their salespeople’s self-limiting beliefs into empowering ones, have found an unbeatable path to success.

NUMEROUS WAYS TO SAVE ENERGY PART 1

There are numerous ways that can decrease the energy expenditures and use it more proficiently. There are some techniques and suggestions to control the energy bills.

Guidelines for Heating

All the guidelines mentioned below are supposed to for consumers who are using electric energy as their basic energy mix. All the heating devices use electric power to operate, be it a hot-air force system or a hot-water circulating system. An efficient boiler separately would not contribute towards reduction of your consumption bill rather we need to keep in focus the complete heating system as a one unit. By keeping a blend of proper wadding, thermostat adjustment and climate stripping we can control the use of energy by our heating system and minimum exhausts to atmosphere.
  • Scheduled regular visits by certified experts for routine maintenance and checkup of your heating system are beneficial.
  • Suitably padded walls, floors, ceilings, hot air vessels, hot water channels substantially eliminates transfer of heat to atmosphere.
  • The filters of hot-air force system should be periodically checked and properly cleaned or replaced.
  • When the temperature is equal the air with low humidity, makes you feel wintry than the air with more humidity. Therefore the installation of humidifier or manually keeping the home humid will lessen the energy cost.
  • If you are going to install a new boiler keep in mind to select such a boiler the speed of which can be controlled either through some analogue or digital system. You can adjust the speed of the motors according to your needs and it will save your energy. It will also result better quality air, control changes in temperature and produce low sound.
  • While purchasing a new boiler, bear in mind the automatic thermostat which could be programmed in advance for all the possible outcomes and adjusts itself accordingly. You can conserve at least 18% of your energy costs form heating and cooling systems by using such a thermostat. You can also replace your existing thermostat. Keep the temperature of the thermostat according to your comfort.
  • Use storm windows and doors as these contribute as much as 15% towards saving your energy bills. Stick or paste such material on your windows and doors which controls loss of heat. Clear plastic sheet across the windows or windows with double glass (double glaze) controls loss of heat to atmosphere.
  • Proper fabrication of walls, floor, roofs windows and doors with weather shield and specially the areas which contain cracks, conserves energy costs.
  • The moveable electric heaters use extraordinary energy, please avoid these.
  • Allow the sunlight, the natural source of heat to come in. Slide the blinds, curtains, canopies away from window glasses.
Guidelines for Cooling

The cooling system is the largest energy consumer than any other energy consuming system at your home. Like in the case of other systems you can conserve energy and save dollars by appropriate look after and constantly improving your cooling machines.
  • At the time of installation of your indoor cooling units, the most important point is to install it on the appropriate place in your room. The outdoor unit of the cooling system be installed in a shaded place and it should not be under direct sunlight.
  • The size of your central cooling system must be synchronized with the covered area of your building where it is installed. Accurate dimensions of the cooling system ensure proper humidity and more output with less energy.
  • Your air conditioning unit will consume lesser amount of energy if it is periodically checked and looked after. The filter of the unit must be tested at least one time in a month. The easiest way to test the filter is to hold it in front of light, if you can see the light passing through it, it means the filter is in good condition otherwise you need to clean or replace the filter according to its state. You can also refer to the manual of your machine for its routine checkup and cleaning of coils of its condenser.
  • Fans are helpful to spread and throw the cooling to areas which are normally out of reach of your unit’s outlet. If the cooling is not spread evenly into your entire room, the unit will keep working as the thermostat will not automatically switch it off and it will consume more energy.
  • Complete-house fan facilitates vacuum to create suck cool air and also to blow out the hot air. It becomes more effective when out air is cool than the inner one specifically on nights. It reduces load on your cooling system and thus reduction in energy costs.
  • Properly insulate the cooling hoses, the air ducts and other parts of the cooling system to protect transverse of cooling
  • Limit the use of exhaust fans of washrooms, kitchen or in other places. Excessive use of exhaust fans drains out the cooling inside of the home, hardly pumped in by your cooling unit.
  • In case of low to moderate hot, the use of pedestal or ceiling fan would yield better results instead of air conditioning units. The use of air conditioning units would be more expensive and less relieving.
  • Perform all the activities like cloth washing, ironing, cooking etc in such times when the temperature outside the home is lower. It will keep your home cool in hot hours of summer days. The humidity level inside the home increases due to these actions.
  • Use such glasses which are temperature resistant. Storm windows can do this. Canopies and weather shielding could ease your cooling units.
  • While planning to purchase a cooling system look for such machines which are energy efficient. The machines with high SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) would lower you energy bill in return of best output.
  • The temperature in upper stories rise terribly and to cope with this risen temperature you need more energy. It would be a far better to tackle the situation with the help of exhaust fans instead of using excessively your cooling machines. It’ll definitely lower your energy consumption.
  • Never set the thermostat immediately at too much lower degree as you switch it on. It’ll not cool down the room temperature instantly instead your unit needs to work hard. The temperature will decrease at its own pace but at higher costs.
  • Change in temperature by one degree results in three percent change in your cooling costs, subject to size of your covered area. For instance, if you increase the thermostat form 75 to 70 degree, it will save as much as fifteen percent of your energy costs.
Guidelines for Lighting

Decreasing the lighting costs is the straight forward and minimal costly technique. Almost fifty percent of your electricity bill is attributable to lighting your home. The lighting expense of your home can be used to lessen your lighting expense by approximately seventy five percent by using the innovative products. You can replace all your conventional lighting bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) The CFLs emit same quantity of light as the conventional bulbs do, but consume seventy five percent lesser energy. In addition the life of CFLs is six to ten times more than that of conventional ones. While they are more expensive to purchase, but relieves your amount by saving the energy costs in consumption. The CFLs come in a range of appearance and sizes like lamp shape, globes, mini-coils, coils, adjustable lamps etc.
  • Do not forget to switch off the spare lights when leaving the room and think to fix automatic sensors.
  • To have enhanced lighting at your work place, laundry corner, and garage install fluorescent lights with illuminate coating and electronic ballasts.
  • While decorating your home on celebration occasions use light emitting diodes (LED). The LED consumes ninety six percent less energy as compared to conventional lighting devices. The produce lesser heat too.
  • On high security areas the use of motion sensors would provide a better solution.
  • The level of light be adjusted with the help of dimmers and saves the energy cost too.
  • In the market while purchasing lighting devices always remember the ENERGY STAR stickers.

5 Classes of Sales

The sale can be divided into five classes, according to simplicity.

Class 1. The simplest business sale is one in which the customer is so anxious to buy at a specified price that he comes to the salesperson and voluntarily offers her the proper amount of money for the products. As an illustration, take the ticket seller in the box office of a theatre. A line of customers is waiting. Each customer is ready to pay for his ticket as soon as it is given to him. There is only one requirement of the salesperson here – the requirement of accuracy in handling a transaction the details of which are simple and usually so well known by the buyer as to require no selling talk whatever.

Class 2. The customer is not anxious as in the previous case, but is perfectly willing to buy at a given price of any salesperson who may happen to ask for his business. Take as an illustration another kind of ticket seller. Suppose a concert is to be given and a number of people are engaged in contacting potential clients for the sale of tickets. Mr. Smith, a prospective customer, is perfectly willing to buy a ticket to the concert from the first person who asks him.

The salesperson must have knowledge or activity, in addition to meeting the requirement of accuracy as in the first case. For instance, suppose a young student selling tickets for a concert is anxious to sell more than his competitors, but perhaps is not conveniently situated so that he can personally visit as many prospective buyers as others can. He picks up a phone and calls up twenty or thirty people, securing their pledges to buy tickets of him. Thus by directing mental activity, he achieves more than his competitors who use mere physical activity visiting customers in person.

In this second class, the requirements are:

1. Accuracy, as in Class 1, and
2. Energy

In both cases the so called salespeople are merely order-takers.

Class 3. Sales of Class 1 and Class 2 are so simple in their requirements that they need no special attention here. In the first class, the customer is anxious to buy. In the second class he is willing to buy. In Class 3, however, we have an entirely different situation — the customer is neither willing nor unwilling to buy, the matter never having been brought to his attention. Often such customers can use the products or services offered and will buy if the right impression is made. They do not have to be convinced of the value of the products through features and benefits, and the salesperson may so impress such customers with his personality that he can secure the order easily.

For instance, take the same simple illustration of the concert tickets. Two people with these tickets for sale reach the customer at exactly the same time. The customer has not considered the matter yet, but needs no further discussion to bring him to a favorable conclusion. Neither one of the sales people has to argue about the value of the tickets. It is merely a question of which one can make the best impression upon the customer.

A forceful personality is an important requirement of the successful salesperson. While it is desirable for one to have a good proposition, a well-known company, and skill in presentation, there are many cases in which these things do not count so much as personality alone. Personality gives strength to the salesperson’s presentation and inspires in the customer confidence in the company for which the salesperson works. This ought not, however, to discourage anyone from the pursuit of selling products, for there is nothing vague or mystical about a convincing personality; nothing that can’t be acquired through effort and study. Remember – you can improve your personality and make it more effective for the career in selling.

If you have any doubt that this can be accomplished, please consider the following statements before yielding to your doubts:

1. Personality depends upon the development of the physical, intellectual, inspirational, and moral qualities.
2. All these can be improved.
3. The word physical does not refer merely to the height, weight, or strength of a person. It embraces also his general state of vigor and his personal appearance, both of which can be improved by following the common laws of health and cleanliness.
4. By “the improvement of the intellectual person,” reference is made especially to the salesperson’s mastery of the details of his own business, which can be secured through study.
5. The inspirational qualities are those by means of which one inspires himself to greater effort and gathers inspiration from others.
6. The moral elements of personality in the salesperson are the ones that inspire confidence, and these can be acquired by clean living and right thinking.

The requirements of Class 3 are :

1. Accuracy
2. Energy
3. Strong Personality

Class 4. While his personality may gain for the salesperson a meeting with a buyer, there are certain points beyond which mere personality can’t go. Here the salesperson must use, in addition to the requirements already mentioned, a skill in presentation which is based upon his knowledge of the products or services and his ability to convey this knowledge of the products to the mind of the buyer.

The requirements of Class 4 are:

1. Accuracy
2. Energy
3. Strong Personality
4. Presentation

Class 5. This is the hardest class of sale when the customer is absolutely unwilling to buy. After all the powers of energy, personality, and presentation have been brought into play, a final skill is required of the salesperson to enable him to accomplish one of these most difficult sales. This is the art of persuasion.

Suppose you have presented your points with a customer until she is thoroughly convinced of the value of the products, but for some unknown reason she does not buy. In many cases, you must exercise your power of persuasion. Undoubtedly, when buying a shirt or a tie, you have had that peculiar mental impression that you were convinced of the value of the products, but had not yet been persuaded to buy them. This is the frame of mind in which you will find a great many of your customers and the art of persuading without appearing to gush or plead is one of the things you must learn.

The Conclusion

In Class 1 the customer is anxious to buy. The sale is very easy. The only requirement is accuracy.

In Class 2 the customer is willing to buy, but not easily accessible. The sale is easy, but not so easy as before. The requirements are accuracy and energy.

In Class 3, the customer is indifferent. The sale is neither easy nor hard. It requires accuracy, energy, and personality.

In Class 4, the customer is unconvinced. The sale is hard. The requirements are accuracy, energy, personality, and presentation.

In Class 5, the customer is unwilling. The sale is very hard. The requirements are accuracy, energy, personality, presentation, and persuasion.
